As a fully trained female singer, I totally understand how important it is that you find the best and more importantly, the right microphone for your vocal. But to be honest, this can be really hard with so much competition on the market now. There are so many things to take into consideration when choosing and trying to find out if it is the cost of a microphone that matters more or the brand can get very confusing.
Singers will usually use different microphones for their live performances than the ones that they use in the recording studio, so I have reviewed 4 different microphones by a company called RODE. Two of them are mainly studio mics and the other two aimed for live vocal performances.
RODE – Rode have been on the 'microphone' scene since 2004 and are still one of the major microphone players!
The 4 different microphones that I have reviewed will give you both value for money and quality performance.
1. LIVE PERFORMANCE MIC – The RODE M3 is a condenser microphone powered by either phantom power or a 9V battery. This mic can be used as a vocal mic or as a studio mic for drums, guitars or even as a presenter mic, but it is a very impressive and solid vocal microphone! Starting at about £ 58 online it is amazing value for money! It also comes with a 10 year warranty.
2. STUDIO MIC -Rode NT1A -The NT1A is still known as one of the world's quietest condenser mics. The NT1A offers a light and crisp sound and is fantastic value for money and you can buy it online starting from as little as £ 135 or the entire box set comprising of Microphone, Shockmount, Pop Shield, Cable, DVD and 10 year warranty.
3. STUDIO MIC – The RODE NT2000 was the very first large diaphragm condenser studio microphone with a seamlessly variable Polar Pattern and a Filter and Pad found within the body of the actual microphone. It provides extremely low self noise, giving exceptional results and offering the ultimate in recording creativity. This is not designed as a 'budget' mic, but it still extremely good value for money starting at only £ 264.
4. LIVE PERFORMANCE MIC – The RODE M1 is notorious for its solid build and high power neodymium capsule. This microphone is designed for frequent use and can be used night after night, giving top notch performances every time.
